Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns are strong, stable restorations that help a tooth regain its structure after being injured or affected by decay. While fillings are used to strengthen a small portion of a tooth, a crown plays a larger role in protecting the whole tooth. Sometimes called a "cap", a dental crown is created to look like natural enamel and covers a tooth's above-the-gum surface completely.

Crowns are performed primarily to restore strength, but they can also be used to improve a tooth's appearance. Whichever type of crown you choose, our dentists are highly skilled at crown design and placement. Our office is conveniently located in Payson, AZ.

Types of crowns

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns

For a durable cap with a natural appearance, porcelain-fused metal caps might be the right solution for you. It offers both strength and beauty. With this option, a tooth-colored layer of porcelain is placed over metal, creating a restoration that can withstand heavy biting pressure and is considered somewhat stronger than all-ceramic crowns.

All-Porcelain Dental Crowns

This metal-free option provides the most natural appearance as they can be crafted to closely match your natural tooth's color and translucency. While they are not as strong as ceramic-veneered metal or all-metal dental crowns, porcelain caps are an ideal choice for more visible front teeth. They are also the best option if you have any metal allergies or sensitivities.

Gold Dental Crowns

Gold caps are a great option for less visible teeth. They are strong, durable and extremely malleable to make a more precise fit. And unlike porcelain dental crowns, gold caps are not susceptible to chipping.

Bridges

If you have a tooth missing, a dental bridge is an effective way to fill the space and achieve a natural appearance. A dental bridge is comprised of a false tooth (pontic) set in between two dental crowns that attach to the two neighboring teeth. Because the false tooth is anchored by the crowned teeth, the tooth replacement is exceptionally strong and stable. The bridge is held in place by bonded resin cements.

What Happens During a Dental Bridge Placement

Your brand new, beautiful dental bridge can be placed in just two short visits to our office located in Payson, Arizona. During your first appointment, your dentist will prepare the neighboring teeth and take an impression of the space. A temporary bridge is created for you to wear while the permanent fixture is being crafted at the laboratory. When you return, your bridge is carefully bonded into place and adjusted with your guidance.

Our dentists will work with you to ensure your new dental bridge not only looks natural, but fits comfortably, too. If you think you may need a dental crown or bridge please schedule an appointment with Anderson Dental today and call us at (928) 474-4581.
